History
In 1990 Hiram Long inherited an accounting practice from Allen Dale – a friend and colleague who had passed away. After being overwhelmed with work Hiram reached out to Neville Cowan to join the accounting firm as a partner and Long + Cowan was created.
Neville Cowan at the time was the treasurer at the Wellington City Council, so he had a strong background in committees and transcribing. Once Hiram had decided to retire, Neville continued as a sole practitioner trading under the same name until 1999 when Ben Stockbridge took over and purchased the firm.
With over 50 years of accounting and administration experience in New Zealand and abroad, Ben has vast skills in managerial accounting and secretarial management. This encompasses public and corporate accounting practice as well as audit work. Ben also belongs to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
Where Are We?
Long + Cowan originally started out of the DIC Department Store. Because of its scale, the brilliance of its design, and the quality of its construction materials, the building has become a landmark on Lambton Quay.
After relocating multiple times due to redeveloping the buildings, Long + Cowan now call home back on Lambton Quay in the Malcolm Pacific Immigration building, funnily enough overlooking their original office. It’s no longer known as the DIC Building; it’s instead known as the Harbour City Shopping Centre.
